Work Chic - Dots On Dots

Wore this to work last week.

Shirt: Primark sheer shirt previously worn HERE. : ASOS pencil skirt

Had to take a picture with my girl Archie who showed up to work in polka dots too.

After work that day I had a very special meeting with catwalk coach extraordinaire, Jide Adedeji.

Why did I go see a catwalk coach you ask?

Well.....

I have a bit of a shameful secret, I cannot walk properly in heels.

There I said it *whew*

No jokes, anything higher than 3 inches and I'm teetering around like a newborn calf, its a mess. It was probably caused by the fact that I didn't wear heels for years and when I decided it was time to join this brave new world, them heels weren't having it.

See yeah, I used to be short, like proper tiny and then the year I turned 13 or 14, I can't really remember, I grew like 6 inches in a few months. It was the weirdest thing ever, my body became a stranger almost overnight and because I grew so fast it took me a while to get accustomed to my newly elongated limbs and I was the most awkward teenager ever, constantly knocking things over because I forgot how long my arms and legs were.

Suffice to say, it was an absolute nightmare, everybody I knew was still "normal-sized" and I tried to hide my height by hunching, wearing flats and almost trying to disappear.

Anyhoo it took me a while to be happy with my height and by the time I realized it was fabulous and wanted to wear high heels to appear even taller it was too late, I was unable to walk properly because I was so used to wearing flats.

This week I decided to take matters into my own hands and contacted Jide who is an ace catwalk coach and regularly teaches models how to stalk as if their lives depended on it.

My first lesson was on Tuesday and I left that class shamed at how much better a guy could walk in 6 inch heels than I could. Jide gave me a walk of life and I just stood there gaping. Now I am determined *in Kanu Nwankwo voice* (no shade) to work with him and practice until I can give them Naomi Campbell off.

Next time you see me you better clear because I might step on you (this is not a joke, I might literally step on someone, I'm 6 ft and I'll probably be wearing heels in the vicinity of 5 inches, there's no way I'd be able to see anyone below 5'7).

Fingers crossed.

This Week I'm Loving.......

.........The Pearl Shop

You guys know I'm all about my jewelry. There was a time I used to pile it on without rhyme or reason but as I grew older I learned to tone it down and now I'm usually just into a single statement piece which more often than not is centered around a necklace.

I remember the days of massive earrings that ripped my earlobes and I shudder

Anyhoo when I received these awesome pieces from The Pearl Shop I did a little jig.

The 6 strand coral necklace set and;

the single strand pearl and bali bead necklace

.....can you say heaven?

This is sooooo my type of jewelry now, I heart corals, big jewels, pearls, cameos and The Pearl Shop does it in abundance.

LOVE this!!

If you are as captivated as I am, run on over to The Pearl Shop facebook page HERE to see more pictures.

Lovely!

Love and light xx

p.s. anyone know where I can get these bust thingys used to display the jewelry? They need to join my jewelry trees. If you sell them or know where I can get them please get at me. Thanks.

Things TWP Loves

One of the things I miss most about living in the UK is the availability of fast and affordable fashion. There is a lot of retail in Nigeria but it can't really be matched by being able to just walk into H&M or River Island and get something nice that won't break the bank.

So when I heard about Things Nigerians Love my mind was not just blown it was completely murked.

Seriously affordable fashion, like seriously...and get this, the people at TNL make everything themselves; clothes, accessories, shoes; so they can afford to sell it at prices that won't give you a headache as opposed to our people who raid Primark and come back to Nigeria to sell it at outrageous prices (you know yourselves).

Things Nigerians Love, TNL is an online fashion retail store created for Nigerians who love fashion.

What they are trying to do here is different. They are not simply purchasing items from other stores and brands and selling them to you at exuberant prices .Enough of all of that.

Instead, what they have done at TNL, is to design and produce fashion items from scratch that they believe Nigerians will truly love and appreciate. Everything from product design, fabric selection and manufacturing has been done exclusively by TNL for TNL meaning that there is a minimum to zero chance that you will see any of their clothing elsewhere.

At TNL, they believe in the following: In pretty things.

That everything looks good in color and in animal print.

That Nigerians should be able to shop without hassle and without breaking bank.

And that looking good should not be an expensive venture.

Please feel free to browse through their site for a wide selection of trendy items at www.thingsnigerianslove.com .

For customers in Abuja, You can either make your purchases from DV8 clothing store at Extension A34 Efab shopping mall area 11 Garki, Abuja or still do so directly from their site.

Shipping is free(yes FREE) and payments can be made on delivery or through a bank transfer. Please select the method best suited to you at checkout.

If you like them, tell your people. If you don't and think that there is something that they can improve on, well tell them so they can work on it and make you like them :)

All the clothes retail from about N3,900 to N8,000

None of the shoes cost more than N5,500

And the jewelry all cost N1,500 and below.

Shocking isn't it?

How dare they be so cheap? What gives them the right to assume the position of a Nigerian H&M?

I mean you can take N15,000 to their site and come out with an entire outfit plus extras.

Happy shopping!

This Week I'm Loving.....

........Ulyana Sergeenko

She is a part of the now famous Russian fashion pack that includes Miroslava Duma; founder and editor of online fashion journal Buro 24/7,  Elena Perminova; Russian model and socialite,  Anya Ziourova; fashion director of Tatler Russia and Vika Gazinskaya; fashion designer and Natalia Vodianova; model.

Most people are gaga over Miroslava but Ulyana is my absolute favourite. She dresses like a 50s housewife/dominatrix/stylish AF grandmother, she gives fantastic bitch face and she constantly looks like she could squash anyone that pissed her off with the heel of her shoe.

She looks imperious, unapproachable and I'm so here for her.

Isn't this death stare everything??? Doesn't she look like an evil, fantastical, somewhat malnourished fashion witch??

*sigh*

IN. LOVE.

Shirt Dress - Two Ways

I received this Wana Sambo Modern Bishop shirt dress a while ago and instantly fell in love with its versatility.

The material is light and breathes easily and I totally heart the bishop collar and the length.

I wore it to work in the look on the left and to a casual drinks do in the look on the right.

LOOK 1

Top: Wana Sambo Modern Bishop shirt dress. Skirt: Topshop leopard print tube skirt. Belt: River Island  belt. Shoes: Guess by Marciano gladiator sandals. Jewelery: Marc Jacobs twin bracelets

LOOK 2

Top: Wana Sambo Modern Bishop shirt dress. Trousers: Topshop supersoft 'Leigh' jeans. Shoes: Zara ankle strap pumps

The peek-a-boo opening at the back is a definite plus too.

The material is so sheer and light and easy to breathe that I'm even considering wearing it as a beach cover-up in the future. That photo will definitely not make it on here because I'm not sure I fancy photos of myself in all my half naked glory floating around the interwebs thanks very much.

And yes I cut my hair (my weave actually but my hair still), the heat has been on steroids in Lagos recently and all the hair I had hanging in my face was literally cooking my skin, damn near drove me nuts and one day out of frustration I took a pair of scissors to my hair.

Yup, I cut it myself.

Chopped off about 6 inches of prime Remy Saga. It was either that or cut off my face and since my money-maker isn't going anywhere, the hair had to go.

I might have a future as a hair stylist if this whole oil & gas law thing decides to go left.
