Cocktail Sunday

I have been a massive no-show on this streets, that's mostly because blogging and everything that comes with it (the posting, attending events etc) became a bit too much for me to handle. Regulars should be used to me having to disconnect for a couple weeks or so every few months because as much as I like to believe I'm superwoman, ever so often I am forcibly reminded that I'm not and I have to give my 100% to the career that keeps me in Maltina.

After a supremely sedentary weekend, I crawled out of my bolt-hole to attend my friend Chiz's cocktail event at L'espace. Chiz is the CEO of Elle's Icebox, the baddest cocktail company in Nigeria and the girl knows her way around a bar. I'm not a big drinker, but she hinted there were small chops and before I knew it I was speeding down Third Mainland singing 2 Become 1 in my best Mel C voice.

This is me, after healthy servings of small chops. So happy I didn't notice the Mojito being pushed into my hand.

Chiz on the left, Ij and Ify to the right.

Wasn't really fussed about my outfit, I just made sure it was loose enough to pack away the small chops without detection.

I really like this photo (below), if you squint, shape your left hand into a telescope and look very carefully into the reflection of my sunnies you can see my brother Chidi very grudgingly taking this photo.

H&M shirt, ASOS Tall wet look leggings, Calvin Klein cross body bag, Salvatore Ferragamo 'Varina' flats, Hermes bracelets, Bvlgari ring & Ray-Ban sunnies

Ohmygosh you guys, I can't believe I almost forgot to mention ASOS Tall. If you're as blessed as I am with legs for dayssss and you're stuck in a country where you cannot adequately clothe such legs due to a lack of statuesque-centric stores, ASOS Tall is here to save your entire life.

I usually buy clothes about 2 sizes bigger then amend them, just because they'd have longer sleeves or longer lengths.

This is now a thing of the past thank Christ.

Here's to regular blogging in Jesus name.

p.s. Elles Icebox will be having a karaoke event at L'espace; 19a Olosa street (the one-way street opposite Eko Hotel, you can access it through Karimu Kotun) on Thursday this week from 6pm. Imagine cocktails and karaoke......potent AF.

I'm hosting, I love karaoke and sing like a screech owl. Come through and get your entire life.

p.p.s Just saw this gif on Buzzfeed, round of applause for Chuck Bass please!

That look was sizzling!

Work Chic - Day to Night

This is my second ever day to night post, I should probably do more of these because I pull double duty a lot but honestly it doesn't involve anything more than taking off a blazer, adding extra jewelry and a pair of heels.

Anyhoo, check on it.

Wore it to work, giving them shades of blue

Zara blazer; ASOS dress, Salvatore Ferragamo pumps; Fendi mini cuff bracelet

At 4.59pm.....ta-da!

Whipped off the blazer and was ready to hit the mean, traffic-ridden streets.

I had a dinner party that evening and the dress sans blazer was perfect for it.

Blazers are probably one of my favourite items of clothing, I own loads of them and they never go out of fashion, they keep you warm on cold days, cover up your nakedness....

Like seriously, they are like superhuman clothing.

Hats off to whoever invented blazers.

Hey Shala

Who can forget this fashion fantastic photo from Fashion Week in 2011?

All the ladies were fly AF but top honours went to Shala Monroque in her chambray shirt and mustard skirt.

For months after that her look was re-created by fashionistas worldwide, I swear I saw someone pull a Shala at least once a week. Strangely enough I never got into it, I mean I had a denim shirt, I had  a mustard skirt but the look was so overdone I let that bandwagon pass me by.

Two years later I hadn't seen anyone do the Shala in a bit so I figured it was safe and rocked it to work last Friday.

Zara denim shirt; Miss Selfridge mustard pleated skirt; Dorothy Perkins mixed coral neckpiece; ASOS gold & leather cuff; Prada baroque sunglasses; Louis Vuitton Alma GM in Monogram Vernis (another bandwagon fashion look I steered clear of till now); Salvatore Feragammo patent 'Varina' flats

Shout-out to my boo Archie for taking my pictures.

Work Chic - The LBD & The statement Jacket

An oldie but a goodie.

I've had this post in my drafts for a few weeks not but completely forgot about it. This was when I still had my big hair, I really miss this hair, definitely have to get it done again.

Anyhoo this black dress is one of my favourites, if my colleagues only knew how many times I've rocked this dress with a different jacket, shirt, belt, brooch......the dress def has super re-rocking powers.

Zara boucle jacket, ASOS dress, Salvatore Feragammo 'Varina' flats, Bali bead & pearl necklace from The Pearl Shop

*sidebar* The lovely people at The Pearl Shop just named a piece of jewelry after me. Get into the 'Daks' freshwater pearl & black onyx necklace...

I am beyond honoured, this is so awesome, thanks guys!

Random

Wore this out initially for a 2 year old birthday party but after consulting with Himself and endless self-examination, decided to respect myself and went back to change into a pair of jeans.

I didn't want to be that girl at a kids party that all the mothers were side-eyeing.

Oh and btw, new huuurrrr

Zara blazer; H&M tank and boyfriend shorts; H&M neckpiece; Louis Vuitton Brea MM; Salvatore Ferragamo Varina bow flats; Dolce & Gabbana aviators

This hair makes me want to wear a dashiki, listen to India Arie and eat tofu :)

OOTD - Black Swan

It honestly wasn't my intention to channel a gothic ballerina of some sorts, was stumped for what to wear to work on Monday and as black is always a safe option I went for it. Plus I love updo's and whenever I have my natural hair out I like to show off le visage without the acres of weave usually hanging around it.

Check out my mean mug a la Wednesday Adams....

giving 'em face like Tyra, Miss J. and J. Alexander were right there cheering me on....

H&M sheer pussy-bow blouse; H&M trend high-waist full skirt; Salvatore Ferragamo bow pumps; Revlon Lipstick in 'Black Cherry'

A very convenient and infrequent breeze blew just then and as a result of my having no stamina I sort of moved with the wind and stumbled into fierce territory.

Lol.

I've had this skirt since 2008 and I remember when I first got it, I was visiting my friend Nneka in NY and after every day of shopping I'd come home to Harlem and show off my purchases and I rememeber her going "you're never going to wear that".

Well boo to you Nekky baby, I'm still rocking it 4 years later, best $60 I ever spent.

Love and light beautiful people xx
