The Grove

Blame the fact that I'm writing this on a Friday night after a very tedious week so my brain couldn't be taxed to come up with an imaginative post title. Its 'The Grove' because that was the location of this particular post.

This outfit is by Maju, and it is one of the most super casj, laid-back outfits I've worn in recent times. I felt like I was going to Woodstock on a VW bus in it. I wore it for the first time out in Los Angeles, and again to a friends birthday brunch last weekend in Lagos, and got rave reviews every time.

Most people might not think of wearing the two together but can certainly appreciate it when they see it.

To add to its quirky offbeat vibe I wore a borrowed choker from my sister. I remember wearing chokers in 1999/2000 I think, and according to my super stylish 18yr old sister, they're back. Luckily I have her to help me stay on track in this weird, wonderful world I find myself in now.

Two Piece Outfit: Maju

Sandals: Target

Choker: Claires

Now....hmmnnn....see yeah, I've been off the Instagram lifestyle grid for a while because I discovered snapchat and its the absolute best thing! (follow me ---> LoveTWP). Anyway, like I said, I've been a bit spacey lately, but this past week I wore the Target slip-ons I have on in this post out somewhere and someone asked me where I got them from. I was like from Target, she asked me how much and I said $8.

Now my girl proceeded to regale me with a ghastly story that there's a Nigerian designer out there, wilding out and selling an exact copy of these slip-ons, only with a strap attached to make it a sandal. This designer is selling her sandals as an original work and for the stupendous price of N30,000.

I clutched my clavicle (I had no pearls on).

I have complained quite strongly about this fantasy world some Nigerian designers tend to inhabit (HERE) and that's why I can't deal with so many of them...sows ears as silk purses group of people. But to blatantly pass of someone else's work, which is being sold for pretty much a pittance, as your own original work, and to then tack on a ridiculous price point at the same time. I got mine for $8, which is N1,600. She's selling hers for N30,000....

I can't...like I just can't.

These slip-ons I bought yeah, they were everywhere this summer. ASOS, H&M, Forever 21, Zara etc. Every high street store was selling their own version. How do you boldly appropriate something so public as yours? I've always admired this designer, always thought her things were a bit pricey but I appreciated them, but now....

NOPE.

Love and light xx
