This purpose of this post is for two reasons; 1) to show you guys a great bargain, and 2) to show that you're never too old for peer pressure.
1) This awesome, awesome dress from Maju Fashion for only N6,750
Maju Fashion is another Nigerian brand that retails at very affordable prices, but strangely I've never really paid much attention to the label. I have a slogan tee from them which says "Shopping Is My Cardio", but nothing else besides that until I stumbled across this beauty at L'espace for the grand price of N6,750....I mean....what else could I have possibly done??
Oh yeah, peep my Anne Elise Real Hair still doing the damn thing.
Maju Fashion shift dress; Ralph Lauren thong sandals
It is such a pretty, pretty, girly dress....I mean, look at this detail!
I have been sleeping on Maju Fashion but I slumber no more. Eyes wide open from this day forth. You can check them out on their blog HERE and their tumblr HERE.
2) Peer Pressure: I was on my own jejely watching old episodes of Got 2 B Real on Youtube when some MUA video popped up on my sidebar, and you know how the Youtube sinkhole operates, once you start you can't stop and that's how I ended up on some channel which was extolling the virtues of orange lipstick. Now I'm famously susceptible to advertising, I'm the kind of person who watches QVC or late night ads and starts ordering a rare coin with Queen Elizabeth's 25yr old profile stamped on it or a potato peeler that creates curled fries or something. But strangely that jazz doesn't work on make-up or skin products. My skin and make-up regime is pretty much the simplest I've ever seen. I don't use a toner, cleanser, facial wash, scrub.....nada.....good old soap, water and face cream.
When it comes to make-up I go one better....snatched brows, winged liner, powder and I rotate between three lippies; nude, red and a dark berry, o gwu cha go. No foundation, eyeshadow, blusher, bronzer, concealer, or contour stuff...none of that at all.
Which is why when I found myself at the MAC counter handing over my coins for MAC Morange I could only conclude it had to be jazz or MUA peer pressure...and as I don't believe in jazz that left the latter. This MUA chick with her compelling voice and eyes convinced me from thousands of miles away through my computer screen to buy orange lipstick. Not even just buy and stuff in a drawer, never to see the light of day but to actually use the damn thing.
Verdict.......
I look like Pennywise from IT.
Love and light xx
Oh, and RE the title of the post, see what I did there :)

Oh, and RE the title of the post, see what I did there :)
Hahahhaha. We see what you did! That's a lovely dress
ReplyDeleteLol!
Delete*boom shaka boom boom*
Your face looks 100x better than all those Lagos women with pounds of foundation on their face and clinique products in their bathroom! Less is definitely more!
ReplyDeleteI'd really like to think so but there are some product junkies with seriously gorgeous skin, its just not my thing. I'm lazy and can't be bothered and I am blessed to not really need anything.
DeleteBut yeah, I totally agree on the less is more thing, I love Plastics who put their entire face on daily but I never could. So exhausting.
Mehn, I still haven't gotten myself to try orange lipstick, although morange by mac is quite popular and I'm a MAC ADDICT!
ReplyDeleteI used to be like you like a year or two ago, in terms of simplicity. But peer pressure/youtube videos wouldn't allow me to be great. I started the whole, wash, scrub, cleanse, tone wahala. And then this contouring business came about and I no be want carry last. Seeing as I don't wear foundation, I don't know how I found myself in MAC buying a BB cream. I also wanted to experiment with eyeshadow (this one sef, I don tire, so I'm sticking to my eyeliner and mascara). Smh. But yeah, long storyyy short, I am slowly going back to my old ways of concealer, eye liner, mascara, blush and lippie!
PS: Hunny you look fabulous in that dress hunny! And that hair, abeg let me go and sleep. Looking forward to the nice weather Aberdeen has been blessing me with lately! Kachifo!
Nne, please save yourself the stress and keep it simple.
DeleteI used to be a massive make-up addict, blending three kinds of eyeshadow, using blusher, bronzer, highlighter...all that good stuff daily. It was so bad my friends used to be like on my wedding day my face won't look any different as I did bridal make-up all the time. But that was in my wild youth and those days have passed and I don't have as much time as I did then anyway.
That BB cream thing sef, what's its story? I've always wondered if its as magical as its been touted to be.
Thank you, thank you, thank you and say hi to my lovely Abz for me :)
Oh dear, bridal makeup all the time? End up like Kim K, who looked the same on her past two weeding days, as she did going out for dinner. The thing is, I don't do really wear makeup unless I am going out-out, butttt I wear lipstick even if I'm just going to the grocery store lol. That is one thing I can never give up. My skin is still good I guess, but cause I've been wearing glasses my entire life, I have dark circles under my eyes, so that's why I succumbed to concealer. I wish there was a remedy that actually works, that I could use to just get rid of this stress :(. This BB cream deal is alright I guess, I tried one by Maybelline, which was nice and light but I can only use it over winter when I'm a bit paler. MAC's BB cream is good as well, I guess. Although I find it to be thicker than the Maybelline one, as I don't need much coverage, so a little goes a long way for me.
DeleteAnyway, the real reason I returned to comment was to show love/my appreciation for your blog. I have been following you for nearly 2 years now, and I have to say you actually kinda encouraged me to move to this town. I admire you a lot, and I wish you the best, and hopefully I shall run into you some day. Enough of the famzing, lol, stay stylish!
PS: Abz sends its love back (in the form of rain this time, lol).
"O gu cha go". Lool!
ReplyDeleteI'm like that too, except I don't even do my brows or use powder. Just eyepencil and lipstick. Lol. I used to be the "just soap and water" skin care regime but peer pressure and tiny rashes on my face made me include a cleanser and body cream. I think I'll just stick to that, I tend to want to try and be more "feminine" by trying to start using proper make up (foundation and all) but this post has made me realize I don't need all that. I mean, look at you
Thanks!

Guurrl I've seen you, you don't need a damn thing. Please retain that youthful glow and stay away from poisons in the name of skin products.
DeleteWhy thank you, glad to be repping for the minimalists
The dress is GORG!!! Why don't I find treasures like you? Wanna invite me on your next window shopping trip?
ReplyDeleteLol, yoooo. I don't find these things, they find me. Going Nigerian designer shopping this week though (personal shopping for a friend of mine), email your number, will let you know when.
DeleteNice :). You are beautiful jare, fearfully and wonderfully made.
ReplyDeleteAnd you, darling girl...just made my day
DeleteI am very horrible at doing my own makeup I end up looking like a masquerade! So I stick to powder and red lipstick. I recently learnt how to prim my brow , but truth be told I still leave d house wtout makeup. Lip gloss and powder wt a gorgeous outfit and shoes are all I need.
ReplyDeleteHahaha, I doubt you can be that bad but honesty is the first step toward self-enlightenment, so its great you know your limitations, lol.
Deleteand you've got gorgeous skin.some people have uneven skin tone and all that yada yada ish with their faces.I definitely feel the pressure from youtubers and all the makeup products.had to cut back and buy stuff onece every 3 months.and also clothing sites just as i am about to go check out the maju page and order something *coversface*
ReplyDeleteAll I can do is give thanks to the Almighty.
DeleteYay, buy! buy!
As always you look great. I have just started with the whole primer, foundation and powder thing and so far I like it. Peer pressure got me into learning how to do my brows and I cant say I regret it. Orange and Lippy are always my thing. You look take away in yours.
ReplyDeleteLol @ takeaway. I thought I looked awful, but I'll take your word for it.
DeleteGorgeous dress! You look amazing!
ReplyDeleteI agree wif you on the influence of Youtube MUAs. I found myself buying Ben Nye Powder n other make-up sturvs I never use!
Smh
God save us! Lol
Don't tell me you're a SK fan! Penny wise the dancing clown scared the ish outta me. We could become friends if you tell me you prefer the book IT to the movie!
ReplyDeleteP.s. Nice dress
Wait...what?
ReplyDeleteYou use nothing?
How is your face sooo..clear and smooth??
Dear God extend that blessing my way too nah!
Well you are one gorgeous lucky lady.
I'm loving the texture that this dress has
ReplyDeleteGorgeous dress. I like
ReplyDeleteYou Mean you don't use foundation? If that is true my namesake(I am Adaku too), i need to know everything you use on this your beautiful skin, so that i can photocopy it. I am very serious. And i love you to bits #nohomo
ReplyDeleteThe Fabric is really pretty
ReplyDeleteLOL @ "jazz or MUA peer pressure"
ReplyDeleteDude! I have been known to do much the same. WHich resulted in me having a trunk load of makeup and clothes that I had never worn, tried, or danced in...ebay was my BFF late 2013, let me tell you! LOL
