Wedding Saturday - Simi & Deji

Last weekend, I attended my friend Simi's fab wedding.

H&M top and skirt; Calvin Klein python print clutch; Indigo Boutique neckpiece; ASOS chunky gold link anklets; Dorothy Perkins pumps

I got there super late because I was running errands the whole day and arrived at the tail end when the wedding had turned into a proper owambe.

It was so awesome, I think people really thought they were at Sip or Likwid because guests were gbesoke'ing and komole'ing like no tomorrow. I had sooo much fun and had to leave very reluctantly at about 9.30pm.

I really love this whole wedding turned party thing people are doing, for the life of me I can't remember if that's how its always been. Its like it wasn't one day and then it was, really puzzling.

It was a fun day/night out with tons of friends.

*sidebar* I got asked on here why I have so many varied friends, explanation. I grew up in Lagos and went to the "popular" schools; Pampers, Corona, Grange, Vivian Fowler, Queens College. I mean QC girls alone are enough to give you circles for life. That's already over 50% of the average Lagosian, so yeah, I know way more people than is healthy.

I don't mind though, its pretty useful being so plugged in.

Beautiful People

Can you see how much fun we had? People were climbing on tables and chairs....it was ridic and waayyy fun.

Congrats Simi and Deji!

This Week I'm Loving........ House of Nwocha

I always thought House of Nwocha dealt strictly in dramatic red carpet dresses, I mean I only saw HON clothes when they were worn on the red carpet. However one day I made one of my lunch time trips to L'espace, saw this dress below and promptly fell in love.

I went through the rack and saw tons of regular, easy dresses that were surprisingly affordable, the dress above was less than N10,000, so was another silk yellow maxi with a gorgeous cityscape print I def have to blog about later. I snatched them both up right quick.

House of Nwocha striped dress; ASOS ankle strap pumps; Michael Kors python clutch; Dorothy Perkins neckpiece

Since then I've kept my eyes peeled for more HON goodies and recently copped this pleated red maxi below. For my fellow long-legged beauties the length of this dress is fantastic, floor sweeping gorgeousness.

This is the other dress I got, the yellow maxi as worn by Ugonna Omeruo, the Creative Director of House of Nwocha.

House of Nwocha is definitely one to keep an eye on.

House of Nwocha retails at L'espace 19a Olosa street of Karimu Kotun street Victoria Island, Lagos.

Hey Shala

Who can forget this fashion fantastic photo from Fashion Week in 2011?

All the ladies were fly AF but top honours went to Shala Monroque in her chambray shirt and mustard skirt.

For months after that her look was re-created by fashionistas worldwide, I swear I saw someone pull a Shala at least once a week. Strangely enough I never got into it, I mean I had a denim shirt, I had  a mustard skirt but the look was so overdone I let that bandwagon pass me by.

Two years later I hadn't seen anyone do the Shala in a bit so I figured it was safe and rocked it to work last Friday.

Zara denim shirt; Miss Selfridge mustard pleated skirt; Dorothy Perkins mixed coral neckpiece; ASOS gold & leather cuff; Prada baroque sunglasses; Louis Vuitton Alma GM in Monogram Vernis (another bandwagon fashion look I steered clear of till now); Salvatore Feragammo patent 'Varina' flats

Shout-out to my boo Archie for taking my pictures.

Work Chic: Day To Night

This post has been in my drafts since last year, forgot I had it even.

At least 90% of my work week I don't go home right away, the traffic is nuts and I prefer to drive home much later when traffic has died down so I can be home in 20 minutes as opposed to the 3 hours it would take me if I left at 5pm.

As a result of this a lot of my work wear has to be able to translate easily from day to night in the event there's somewhere I'd like to go after work. What I discovered is that blazers are a godsend, they can turn a ho into a housewife faster than you can say church. Put a blazer over anything and you're good.

Look 1
Wore this to work, all demure like

Zara blazer with gathered shoulders; River Island animal print chiffon dress; Dorothy Perkins pumps

I am so enamored with this particular blazer above that I have it in navy and red besides the black one pictured here.

Look 2
Whip off my blazer and I have a nice dress I can go out to dinner or wherever else that suits my fancy in.

I did just that below when I went out to Likwid with friends for a charity event after work.

So yeah, invest in blazers, they'll save your sartorial life.

Work Chic: Peplum

Wore this to work a couple weeks ago......

Dorothy Perkins peplum dress, Louis Vuitton Alma MM

Consider this a tip (I really hate to say this, I hate this phrase but it seems so apt here) of life.

Dorothy Perkins does the best work dresses ever.

I ransacked DP when I was moving back for work dresses and it gave me everything I needed and more. Dorothy Perkins can look a bit mumsy on the surface but it conceals some fly AF corporate clothes. Dresses that are business like but still dope and fit like a glove. That store is a gem.

Stole my mums Alma off her because I love the bag to death, I'm still mad that I never bought one myself, but its understandable. For about 2 years, between 2008 to 2010, the LV Alma was like the Zara tote of 2011. Errrrbody and their mama, grandma and nanny had one in descending order from real to so fake you want to slap the person carrying it.

It wasn't till I drove past Ikeja market and saw "Alma's" in varying size and colour that I knew we had a problem. Luckily the stampede seems to have died down so I think its safe to bring yours out (real ones for the love of God) and glory in its shiny, cavernous beauty.

The Prada Saffiano and the Celine Boston bag have the tendency to go down that route, the differentiating factor being that counterfeiters don't seem too keen on them, thank God. Majority of the Saffiano's and Boston bags you see around are more than likely original. So they might be plentiful but I doubt they can be abused unlike poor Louis Vuitton Alma.

We...um...outchea?

Another phrase I absolutely abhor.

Work Chic

Wore this to work last week........

Cannot believe I have a job that allows me to dress this way, LOVE IT!.

Forgive me, I'm not used to bright colours or expressing myself sartorially in the work place. My last job was in a law firm and it was all blacks and greys and navys.......bleh

But at my new place I can even wear jeans! Can you believe it? Jeans!

Shirt: Ann Taylor. Trousers: Aqua By Aqua 'Stamp' Pants worn previously HERE. Shoes: Dorothy Perkins. Watch: Gucci. Necklace: Dorothy Perkins

Happy?

Oh yes *in the voice of Churchill*
