Work Chic: Peplum

Wore this to work a couple weeks ago......

Dorothy Perkins peplum dress, Louis Vuitton Alma MM

Consider this a tip (I really hate to say this, I hate this phrase but it seems so apt here) of life.

Dorothy Perkins does the best work dresses ever.

I ransacked DP when I was moving back for work dresses and it gave me everything I needed and more. Dorothy Perkins can look a bit mumsy on the surface but it conceals some fly AF corporate clothes. Dresses that are business like but still dope and fit like a glove. That store is a gem.

Stole my mums Alma off her because I love the bag to death, I'm still mad that I never bought one myself, but its understandable. For about 2 years, between 2008 to 2010, the LV Alma was like the Zara tote of 2011. Errrrbody and their mama, grandma and nanny had one in descending order from real to so fake you want to slap the person carrying it.

It wasn't till I drove past Ikeja market and saw "Alma's" in varying size and colour that I knew we had a problem. Luckily the stampede seems to have died down so I think its safe to bring yours out (real ones for the love of God) and glory in its shiny, cavernous beauty.

The Prada Saffiano and the Celine Boston bag have the tendency to go down that route, the differentiating factor being that counterfeiters don't seem too keen on them, thank God. Majority of the Saffiano's and Boston bags you see around are more than likely original. So they might be plentiful but I doubt they can be abused unlike poor Louis Vuitton Alma.

We...um...outchea?

Another phrase I absolutely abhor.

Love and light xx

  1. d.p is one of my favorite store for dresses and work shoes too. lmao @ the lv statement, that's Nigeria for you, i mean why not buy a regular bag instead of carrying fake, i just don't get it with people that do that. if you cant afford it, just do with the regular high street bag.

  3. I can attest to your testimony on DP, my closet screams DP sooo loud. They ROCK.

As for the fakies, I have stopped talking. I rather do a normal stuff than struggle on the wannabe lane with fake stuff. I don't understand why people just won't let real be real.

  6. I liked how you paired it with the bag...totally dope.

I have the teal (i think...looks like green kinda lol) of this dress and wore it to work on monday. I love it.

Unfortunately, DP doesn't have a dedicated store/stroes in Dubai, it just has a small corner in Debenhams but they stock up pretty well.

  10. i love you Adaku. your humor is just beyond me, you always have me in stitches....the alma has really suffered, the fakes are available in colors that even LV has never heard of!! crazy, crazy. Some designers are just so prone to imitations sha...d&g, lv, Gucci, Marc jacobs, chanel, fendi...that why sometimes, i just prefer to go with some very unknown, but quality designer labels, or simple high street fashion retailers.

The problem with DP though is that you then turn up to work and 5 girls are wearing the same dress as u!

    1. Ha! I've seen the fake yellow too, mostrosity. I'm not usre I've seen any fake Boston's though, just a lot of them but not fakes. I don't think the replica makers are checking for Celine like that.

Luckily I havent't had that problem in Lagos, never jammed anyone wearing the same thing I was wearing.

    2. Adaku, kindly check out these links as an answer to your statement above. Every brand has a fake now. I think its just that people buy some more than others. The particular link is from MAytedoll blogspot and she tells you where to buy the bags, and they start at about $60 http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/jj572/maria_11_bucket/IMG_3883-1.jpg and http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/jj572/maria_11_bucket/IMG_3895-1.jpg

    1. I really cannot say, because I'm a UK10 but sometimes I wear a 12 in DP. The dress I have on in this post is a 12 even, I bought it and had to amend it to fit properly. When i tried on the 10 it was too tight acros the bust and the underarms so I got a 12 instead.

DP usually runs true to size though but if you can't try it on I suggest you just go a size up to cover all bases. You can always make it fit you.
