Monochrome & Zebra Print

So work has started in earnest, 5am wake-up time....I am once again run ragged by this 8-5 life of mine but who says I can't look faboosh while doing it :-)

Wore this outfit to work just yesterday.

Zara blazer and trousers; Primark lace shirt; Things Nigerians Love brown and black zebra print pumps; ASOS necklace; Valentino sunnies

I am in LOVE with having one colour running throughout separates or different shades of the same colour, its matchy-matchiness is so beautiful to me. I am currently on the hunt for a red pant-suit but instead of skinnies I want the trousers to be high-waisted and super flared, 70s style.

If I could get that I'd just die! Die I tell you!

Lol.

These trousers were initially flared but they weren't long enough so I had them pared down and voila...skinny trousers.

I really need to send a shout-out to my kid brother Ebuka who I've tortured this entire holiday into helping me take my pictures, the poor kid is probably ready to have me assassinated by now but he's been a trooper through and through.

My fave has been awesome sauce too, the look of despair on his face when I pull out my camera is priceless but he's been ace. Riccardo Pozzoli and Wes Mason have nothing on Olly.

That's actually food for thought, besides my girl Stella of Jadore-Fashion, Nigerian fashion bloggers are generally not in favour of putting their other halves on their blogs, me included. I feel like I've chosen this life of over-exposure but I don't need to drag my loved ones into it, which is why my siblings are never on here and my mum has been just a couple of times or so. This is so unlike international bloggers like Chiara,  Aimee, Gary Pepper or Jules whose boyfriends are practically accessories.

I think it might even be a black blogger thing, I don't think I've seen a popular black blogger showcase her significant other the way the non-black ones do. If you guys know any please correct me.

Love and light xx

  1. That's so true. No need dragging innocent people in. Just here and there.

The black and African youtube vloggers are different though (Britpopprincess, TiarraMonet). They all do 'husband/fiance/husband/kids' tag and have them as guest vloggers on their tutorial videos (which is kind of way more exposure than just pictures).

ps. did you end up buying a bridge camera? Just did a post referring to your camera dilemma from months ago.

    1. At all and people don't seem to understand. They'd be all "oh you're hiding your relationship", so unnecessary.

Really? I'll check them out, I'm not big on vloggers though but I'll look up these ones you mentioned.

Yeah I did actually, I got a Canon G12 and its beinf fabulous so far.

  5. i dont think it necessary to bring them into your blogging except they want to be part of it. if i had a blog i wont involve my family except if absolutely necessary.

  7. I am loving this outfit especially with the shoulder blazer swag! LOVE this hair on you and it adds an edge to the whole outfit.

LOL at significant others being featured. I plug him in here and there...my blog is about fashion and lifestyle so he gets occasional features. :) He is always like...oh! I get another feature on Jadore smh!

I think part of the reason some of the other bloggers mentioned feature their partners is because they work together and both are in the same business.

    Anyway, nice outfit ;)

    1. Woosh! Thanks babygirl.

Hahaha, they're always so excited when that happens, lol.

Yeah I figured, Wes and Riccardo take all the photos so I guess they're official photogs now and their gf's site help them raise their profile too.

  8. Love it!! Have to say Primark have been doing nice tops/blouses. Understandable about keeping the loved ones private - as someone stated above, the YouTube vloggers are more prone to sharing that side and sometimes it's because viewers keep persistently wanting to be nosy and know about OHs.

I understand the importance of connecting with your readers on a personal level but I just can't get with the display of family on the internet. never have, never will.

  9. Love it Daks! You inspired the short hair I had while in naij FYI!

RE family and BF's on blogs: I always thought of this too! Its weird how most black bloggers in general hardly put their family/BF's on their blogs. I try not to either on any social network except maybe instagram. Some things are better private! My sister has banned me from ever doing it. lol.

  11. Looking fab, Daks. I would truly love to hang out whenever I am in town as part of the #justgotbecks =))

My dear, I am NOT a fan of exposing your family to your blogs and vlogs. I read a lot of blogs by black and white people and I am subscribed to quite a number of people on YT too. It seems though most of the people I am subscribed to do not mind the exposure. I am not entirely sure if it is a race thing. I mean, come on! I know the names of their kids, their husband or boyfriends, the town/city they live in, what they do with their lives and so forth. And I am a TOTAL stranger who is not stalking them. I truly believe that putting ALL your information out there on the www is dangerous. I like the hint of mystery, but that's me. *kanye shrug* Now, quite a number of those relationships fail, it is a fact of life. Then, when subscribers ask, they do not want to share. Errm, if they shared all the goodies before, there is a reasonable expectation that you would continue to do so!

    1. Get at me whenever you're in town gurl! You know my email.

I guess their families are cool with it that's why. Blacks are just generally more conservative.

  14. I think it's a good idea not to share TOO much on the internet but a little here and there is cool imho. I'm only skeptical about sharing pics of a significant other because I think about what would happen if the relationship broke up? Until somebody is my husband I just think that anything can happen and I don't want to see deleted posts etc. etc. In somebody like Chiara Ferragni's case, she lives with Richie and they run the blog together so that's a little different.

Finally, I adore your hair like this and love the monochrome look.

    1. That's exactly what I always think! Like what happens if you break up, you start showcasing another bf? Smh. I've never even done the whole rship stat thing on FB, that side of things is just not for the masses, in my opinion. I think the likes of Wes and Riccardo are now business partners with their blogger gfs now because if they ever broke up they should be earning revenue on residuals for the previous work they've done for the blogs. If they're not htose boys better get some lawyers because their gfs are making ridic money with their help.

  15. Baby Oku! Always always on point! Oooooh, and i love that shirt the most.

Re the exposure angle, all i can say is: one can't be too careful especially in these zones.

    Wardrobe sales anytime soon? *wink*

  18. U look gorgeous! I love the new hairstyle, suit, blouse (especially the lace detail over the shoulders), shoes, just everything sha (c this Southy girrrl tryin Igbo)! That color suits u ooo...

Can c u r starting the "model/fashion bloggers serious pose"! U r photogenic and wee Ebuka did a gr8 job aye. Keep encouraging him sha, he may become the next big photographer. That's how Dotun, Tunji & others started.

Family, partners, etc on blogs? If it's a personal blog, yes u can show them off but on a fashion/lifestyle blog, NO. You r creating and building up a brand here. Therefore, it should look professional. There are many reasons for my humble opinion:
    1. U don't know who is viewing yo blog. Many of the viewer r Anons, abi? So, how do u know I am a PR/Marketing/Advertising exec of a big company, then there I c my ex next to u or wee Ebuka who just dumped my wee sister? Any business offers I had for yo blog would b gone abi?
    2. These relationships breakdown at times abi? Sponsorships r hugely affected by one's personal image, in most cases.
    3. Your family, relations & partners probably have their own professions. Some highly skilled professional jobs really scrutinize who to employ and their current for that matter. U'll b surprised @ how many HR bosses surf the net to check our personal life on social media!
I could go on & on but let me stop here! However, it works for some if u r on similar business, i.e Stella and Olu for Lynks.....
I want to believe that Lynks videos on Youtube have a lot of exposure and following through J'adore because we feel we know him too!

Keep am coming, m so looking forward to 2013. TWP has great tins and surprises for us eh?

    Love
