Discipline.....

I love me some Yagazie Emezie and her latest video is high-larious to say the least. She talks about disciplining children by beating them which I'm a firm advocate of. I was beaten, my kids...if they step out of line will be beaten. I personally, as she does, think its the most effective method of child punishment.

Some kids however react differently to various types of discipline and some no matter how they're flogged still turn out to be bad eggs, those ones just need to be dedicated to God because I know the fear of my mother's cane was the beginning of wisdom for me.

I remember my darling Mrs. U driving my brothers and I to Cane Village in Maryland to pick out the canes she'll use to beat us. Trust me the drive alone to Mende was enough to curb us of of any tendencies to act out.

Unless you're a supreme dunce who actually enjoys being beaten you'll fix up sharply. I've never understood how grounding a child or "talking" to them helps, well....lemme start birthing my sprouts first. Then maybe I might get it and choose to go with that tactic but if my kids inherit any of my genes then they'll definitely need the bejesus scared out of them with a cane because Lord knows I was nuts as a child.

Anyway this is Yagazie's video below, her face when she's plucking the leaves off the cane.....classic!

Love and light xx

  1. The cane is the surest way, I remember whilst still young after an offence, I'll pretend to be asleep in the evenings when my dad comes back from work...the thought of that alone makes me act right...

  2. #TeamBeatYoKIds!

Agreed! Some kids need fasting and prayers, others need therapy but the MAJORITY just need a good ol' spanking!
Don't let that slipper/hanger/"pankere" go to waste.

    sidenote: I like her accent.

    1. You're a very strong person because I lived in mortal fear of being caned. My childhood stubborness went down by at least 98% because I knew it would result in being beaten. I'm hoping my kids take after me and have a healthy fear of being caned too.

  4. I think it really depends on d kind of child tbh...as u said some kids beat them till thy kingdom come, they won't fix up.....I was never beaten once n I'm proper 9ja, my mum believed in the 'talking' method and it worked. And best believe me, when she sits me down n start talking, Jesus is lord in my head I'm actually begging her to flog me instead cos that woman's mouth...jheez lol

    1. I've met people like that who've never been flogged, you guys are like mythical creatures to me, can't fathom it. It seems to have worked for a lot of people though, I guess its better to start out with the talking and find out exactly what works for your child before descending into tanning them on a regular.

  5. mehn, my mum was a teacher so there were canes all around the house, all she needed to do was reach, and voila! there was a cane. My mum would talk to you alright.....with the cane, and boy, you would understand!!!

However, i believe the child should be told why they were being beaten, quietly after he/she has stopped crying and all of that and see that it's from a place of love, not sheer delight in brutality.

  6. I was beaten. Was not really a stubborn child so once my mum gave me that look, the way i'll correct myself. Same with my sister, but y little brother, oh gawsh, all methods have been tried, he has been flogged more than any of us been given various punishments. As you said, it all depends on the child. I have come to realize though the more you are given the same punishment the more you get used to it so as the child grows innovation has to occur.

  9. Growing up, I was never flogged, but the way my mom will talked to me, it will make me feel more guilty and bad wishing she flogged me instead--that "look" was scaring. At the same time, I was a pretty calm kid. :) I feel like I inherited the "look" because when I give my cousins that look, they better find their status. LOL!

I think using cane to discipline a child depends on the parents and the child and the foundation they started the parenting on. Some parents neglect to discipline or correct their children from the beginning stating that the kid is too young to understand, which is bull. For me, correcting me and explaining the reason or consequences of my actions helped.

I will have to wait and see my technique. :)

  11. I was beaten as a child o. gaaad! the worst part was when my dad wud flog u and then tell u 2 'hold your mouth'. Biko how is that possible. that picture of me trying to hold my mouth and wailing at the same time will forever be hilarious.

i think you should flog a child according to say their degree of stubbornness for instance my sister was never really beaten as a child cos she was very obedient and generally fragile. on those days when it was serious and everyone had to line up for flogging youngest to eldest. She wud just get one stroke. one stroke! 'i'm sure dad will say 'make e no be like say i dey do partia'. Me and my brothers on the other hand.... o lawd!

Still i love my parents to death and i feel like i'm gonna go the same route cos i turned out pretty ok. deep sense of what's right and wrong. but we never know. until i have my own kids.
