Glasgow

So last weekend. I went to Glasgow to hang with my cousin Bob for his birthday. At least now I'm satisfied I've visited all the other major Scottish cities besides Aberdeen. I went to Edinburgh in August but it was for an appointment so I didn't get to see much of the city. Dundee is next, as I keep promising @AfricanChiquito.

I knew Glasgow was the largest city in Scotland but I still wasn't expecting much. However I was completely blown away, its like London in the Highlands. I'm so insulated living in Abz because it is such a small town and literally every building is built with granite, hence the name "The Granite City". So whenever I go somewhere and I see normal buildings I have a bit of a 5 minute shock then I shake it off. Edinburgh looks somewhat like Aberdeen only larger, but Glasgow was so modern, very little granite anywhere, proper high-rises.....like a proper city. I felt like such a country bumpkin.

Unfortunately I was only there for a day and I arrived so late I couldn't see much of the town, except what I saw on my way from the train station to Bob's house.

Bob!

Aberdeen is supposedly the coldest city in Scotland since its right on the banks of the North Sea but Glasgow hit me for a loop that day. It was freezing.com

I'm now officially into Instagram.

I have such an obsessive personality, everything I get into starts from mild interest to full blown stan'ing. I've been on that Instagram tip for days now, might have to do a post on some of the pictures I've been taking.

I took this photo with the Kelvin filter

My cousin is popularly known as Bobby Good Life and he brought this special brand of partying to Glasgow, we tore it up that night.

Denim Bustier: Topshop

We started out at Corinthians, which honestly blew my mind. Its a restaurant/casino/bar on 4 floors and its seriously lavish inside. There's even a high end pop up boutique in it that sells stuff from Comme Des Garconnes and Agent Provocateur in it. The building was formerly the Union Bank of Scotland and some of the original fixtures remain so the bar itself is fashioned out of traditional bank safes. It has chandeliers everywhere and gorgeous stucco work, amazing architecture, everyone is beautiful and....I really can't describe it well enough, you'd have to see it for yourself.

A total visual experience.

The entrance to the champagne bar

After Corinthians we went into Princes Square for a bit and it had this gorge LED entrance, that kept changing colour

I need at least one room in my future home to be lit up in all this pink.

From there we went to a club called Karbon and there the madness ensued. At first I wasn't feeling it, they had gone overboard with the dry ice so visibility was terrible and I could barely breathe. Plus the DJ was stuck in some weird 90s gangsta-rap time loop.

From nowhere the music just amped up, this DJ tore up the speakers, it was an owambe up in Glasgow. I was seriously impressed. He was so fabulous after a while he started playing Nigerian music. This wasn't a black or an African club btw, just a regular nightclub and he gave us at least 45 minutes of quality Nigerian music.

Definitely somewhere I'll be going back to.

At the end of the night, these guys came and performed, apparently they tour with Skepta or something, never heard of them before that night. They were aight though.

Had to leave for home the next day, I had an awesome awesome time. Funny thing was after all the praise I heaped on Glasgow I'm still happy to be living in Aberdeen, I kinda prefer my boondocks.

Oh yeah, the randomest thing ever, I saw these retro handset thing at Harrods and I just had to have it. I'm a huge fan of kitschy crap, as can be evidenced by the amount of keyholders, fridge magnets, miniature dolls and stuff that I own but this is currently my favourite toy.

Its just a handset with a cord attached and you can connect it to your phone, laptop, iPad...whatever and it works like an actual phone handset. The first time I used it I was on the street in London and the stares I got ehn, too funny. People probably thought I had an entire analog phone in my bag or something.

A few people stopped me to ask where I got it from, just a few though. We mad people are not as much as I thought we were.

I got this colour to match my iPad case, my friend Molly also got the red one

Useless item, but I LOVE it!

Been using it to take calls on my Blackberry for a couple of weeks now or to Skype instead of using headphones. Too cute.

Love and light xx

  4. Ahhhh, so this is how the phone thingy works. I saw someone using it yesterday and the person looked kinda ridiculous. I didn't know it was connected to a small phone. For some reason I thought the person was carrying a land phone o_O Yeah, I know. I'm not exactly tech savy/current.

Next time you need to see all the museums and art galleries in Glasgow its one of the most culturally interesting cities in the UK. Also a really cool fashion scene in Glasgow, probably trendiest city in Scotland.
